Preserving language, regaining skills
When we have language impairments, our relationship with the world around us often suffers. This can happen suddenly, for example after a stroke, when the swallowing mechanism no longer functions properly.
Speech therapy offers the opportunity to specifically promote, restore, or maintain language skills in the long term. In addition to language and speech, the focus is also on voice, swallowing, and hearing. This is because all of these areas determine our communication skills and thus our participation in everyday life.
And that means: practice, practice, practice...
It is often difficult to change speech habits, especially in adulthood and particularly in old age. That is why we at THZ Fugmann place great importance on regular, targeted training.
We teach techniques for overcoming speech barriers and improving existing skills. The aim is to stabilize speech, voice, and swallowing for everyday use, enabling active participation in social life once again.
We also involve family members in the therapy: they receive information on how they can best support patients.

Costs and prescription
Speech therapy is a treatment recognized by statutory health insurance providers. The costs are usually covered if a doctor’s prescription is provided. Speech therapy can also be used preventively.
