Speech therapy for children
Why speech therapy is so important in childhood
Speaking is the basis for contact with the outside world. Decisive steps are taken in childhood that will shape the rest of a person’s life: language influences self-confidence, social behavior, learning success at school – and even later career choices.
What makes it special is that children learn through play. This allows speech therapy to start early, making it easier to break bad habits and achieve lasting progress.
At THZ Fugmann in Düsseldorf and Meerbusch, we support children and young people in developing their language and communication skills. Our speech therapists assess individual impairments and provide targeted treatment for disorders affecting language comprehension, spoken and written language, speech, breathing, voice, mouth function, hearing, swallowing, and perception.
In which cases is speech therapy used for children?
Typical areas of application:
- Speech and language disorders (SLD) and speech and language delays (SLD)

Counseling for parents and relatives
This brings advantages for both sides:
- We provide regular advice on the course of therapy and progress. We demonstrate exercises for you to do at home
- We give tips on how language can be promoted in a playful way in everyday life
Collaboration with kindergartens and schools
Language support does not end in practice. That is why we work closely with kindergartens and schools:
- We inform educators about funding opportunities
- We provide advice in cases of uncertainty or suspicion
- On request, we also conduct exercises directly in institutions
This creates a reliable network that provides children with long-term support in their development.
Our goal
Costs and prescription
Speech therapy is a treatment recognized by statutory health insurance providers. The costs are usually covered if a doctor’s prescription is provided. Speech therapy can also be used preventively.
