Understanding language - enabling communication
Language is our most important means of communicating with other people. But sometimes communication is limited—whether due to illness, developmental delays, or age-related changes. This can lead to insecurity, withdrawal, and isolation.
At THZ Fugmann in Düsseldorf and Meerbusch, we help break down language and speech barriers and rediscover the joy of communication.
Who benefits from speech therapy?
Children and adolescents
Speech therapy supports children with speech development disorders, articulation problems, or dyslexia. Through play, they learn to speak more clearly and express themselves confidently.
Adults
After a stroke, accident, or in cases of neurological disorders, speech therapy helps patients regain their speech, voice, or swallowing functions and live their daily lives with greater confidence.
Senior citizens
Speech and swallowing disorders often occur in old age, e.g., in cases of dementia or Parkinson’s disease. Speech therapy helps maintain independence and quality of life for as long as possible.

We do this together...
Our speech therapists are specially trained to identify disorders and develop appropriate therapies – whether they involve swallowing, language, speech, or voice disorders.
We advise not only patients, but also their relatives—before, during, and after an illness. Together, we develop techniques that help to circumvent or completely remove barriers.
We can help with ...
Speech and language disorders
Disorders that can be caused by neurological diseases, stroke, dementia, or facial nerve paralysis. These also include articulation problems such as stuttering, lisping, cluttering, nasal speech, or limited vocabulary and language comprehension.
Voice disorders
Changes or limitations in the voice that occur due to illness or functional reasons. These include dysphonia, hoarseness, childhood voice disorders, and chronic strain on the vocal cords, which can lead to uncertainty in communication.
swallowing disorders
Problems swallowing, chewing, or drinking, as well as disorders of oral motor function. These often occur after neurological diseases, operations, or in old age, and can severely impair eating, drinking, and quality of life.
Writing and hearing disorders
Dyslexia in childhood or adolescence, as well as hearing impairments that limit speech comprehension. Both disorders can significantly impact communication and academic performance and require targeted speech therapy support.
Our goal
Our goal is to achieve lasting improvement in speech, voice, and swallowing. The earlier treatment begins, the easier it is to make progress. But even those who have been affected for a long time can benefit from targeted training: with patience and the right methods, speech habits can be permanently changed.
Costs and prescription
Speech therapy is a treatment recognized by statutory health insurance providers. The costs are usually covered if a doctor’s prescription is provided. Speech therapy can also be used preventively.
